Cook Wild

Mar 10 2012
US/Alaska

Offered: March 10, 10am-6pm
Instructors: Nele Trpin and Maria Hoffmann

Everything tastes better in the open air, around a fire. We want to inspire you to venture outdoors and eat wild all year round. From the simple dishes that sustained our ancestors to feasts fit for modern foodies, we draw from a rich repartoir of cooking methods and recipes that have been passed down to this day. Whether it´s Lebanese flatbread, hot smoked trout, chicken wrapped in clay, or waffles, chocolate bananas and Transylvanian tree cakes, all are simple and don’t need special tools.

Instructions will be given on selecting wood and making a fire, a range of ovens and cooking methods and suggestions for wild ingredients to forage.

We want to invite you to enjoy the thrill of cooking outdoors, with woodsmoke, storytelling, companionship and fresh air to sharpen the appetite. And maybe you will start feeling so much at home that you may consider Nature to become your living-room and kitchen.

The book “Cook Wild” by Susanne Fischer-Rizzi will be out March 22 in the States.

Nele Trpin was born 1980 in Munich, Germany. She considers herself a nomad as from early childhood on she has been living all across Europe and also in the USA. Her interest in moving is to explore alternative ways of working and living in harmony with this beautiful planet.

She studied American Literature and Art in Hamburg, but never considered taking a career in this field as she felt a strong call to turn her back on conventional city-life and step back into simplicity and an aware life-form strongly connected to Mother Nature. The past six years she has been living and working in Sicily on an Organic Farm learning about sustainability, permaculture and communal-living. Nele is also a Yoga teacher and has found great personal peace through her practice.

In 2010, Nele began the Medicinal Herb Program with Susanne Fischer-Rizzi and is now living and learning with her teacher in Germany.

As one of her great passions is cooking, she was invited to teach the “Wild Cooking” courses by Susanne Fischer-Rizzi and is very happy and thankful to experiment in this wide field and carry her passion into Nature. She loves being able to use the open fire, the “existential cook”, as without fire cooking would have never been possible!

Maria Hoffman was born 1982 in Germany. She has studied in several Wildernes Schools and took part in a program where she lived and “survived” in the Austrian Forest for two years. Now she is working as a Wildernes-trainer and Climbing Teacher in the Wildernesschool in Germany. (www.wildnisschule-wildwuchs.de)

She is a student of Susanne Fischer-Rizzi and completed the Medicinal Herb program in 2011.

One of her great passions is fire and igniting it only with a bow-drill like our ancestors use to do.

She loves being outdoors and she strongly feels that cooking over the fire helps people feel at home in Nature. She wants to share this great experience and inspire people to reconnect to Mother Nature.
