Will Scott
Will graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2002, where he studied ecopsychology and the wilderness process as means of individual social transformation. Upon graduating, Will began teaching and shortly thereafter co-founded The Wilderness Within in 2003, following a call to offer wilderness experiences that address people’s relationship with the natural world, while engaging some of the key questions of our times. As a teacher, facilitator, and wilderness guide for the past ten years, Will seeks to bring awareness to self, other, and earth; recognizing the interdependence between the individual, the social, and the environmental aspects of our lives.
After leading adventure-based backpacking trips and college-level field courses both domestically and internationally for years, he sought to deepen his work through training as a rites of passage guide with the School of Lost Borders. Will now guides wilderness-based rites of passage through School of Lost Borders, Wilderness Reflections, and the Wilderness Within.
More recently, Will has continued with studies of Permaculture design, nature awareness, and cultural mentoring at the Regenerative Design Institute in Northern California, where he now teaches part time when he is not guiding in the wilderness. For the past year, Will participated in a 10-month international pilgrimage focused on leadership training and service called Beyond Boundaries (www.gobeyondboundaries.com). He is currently studying to receive his masters in adventure education at Prescott College.
